Generals Surrender League Lead to BombersBryan-College Station, TX (July 17, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers defeated the Victoria Generals Saturday night in a one-sided affair, 6-1. The win came on Go Green Night Presented by City of Bryan Parks & Recreation while fans celebrated in a St. Paddy’s Day party. The Generals jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first, 0-1, but Bombers’ starter Brannon Easterling shut down the visiting team for the rest of the game. The Bombers did their best to help Easterling, scoring three in the bottom of the first. The runs came on an RBI single by Casey Dykes and a two RBI double by Brennyn Smith to give the Bombers the 3-1 lead. The Bombers added one more in the second when Greg Olson scored on a wild pitch. The game settled own from their until the sixth when the Bombers added their last two on an error and a Wes Patterson RBI sacrifice fly to put the score at it’s final resting place on the evening, 6-1. On the evening, Easterling worked eight innings allowing just two base hits and on earned run. Michael Hilliard finished the game for the Bombers working a scoreless night to bring over 1900 bombers fans to their feet. The win gives the Bombers sole possession of first place in the Texas Collegiate League standings with a one game lead over the Generals. The win also evened the season series with the rival Generals at 5-5 on the 2010 campaign, making Monday’s match up with the team from Victoria all the more important. The Bombers will be back in action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark tomorrow on Bingo Sunday against the Alexandria Aces.
