Dakota Phillips, Victoria Generals, Catcher, University of New Orleans, 6’2
Out of Nacogdoches, Texas, Phillips plays his collegiate ball at the University of New Orleans. Funny enough, he formerly played at Alvin Community College, who Pitcher of the Week Cole Pletka plays for currently.
Dakota’s bat has been on hot to start this season. Hitting a monstrous .385 batting average, he has brought the Generals some early firepower to their lineup. Through 39 at-bats, he has brought in 4 runs and has had 8 strikeouts this season. Phillips is known for his strong athletic build with a good frame. Behind the plate he is recognized for his rapid arm with a good transfer and quick movements. He has great bat speed with a good amount of power in his bat.
In his recent series against the Cane Cutters, he went 9-10 with 4 doubles and a triple. His production this series helped the Generals be in a tie for second place with the Cane Cutters. This prolific weekend earned him Player of the Week honors.
