For the second time this season Rice sophomore Aaron Luna (Euless LoneStars ’06) has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, the league office announced.
Luna, TCL’s 2006 Freshman of the Year, batted .500 (7-of-14) with three multiple hit games, drove in a team-high six runs and shared the team lead with five runs scored to help the Owls go 4-0 on the week. Luna had a home run and a double for a .786 slugging percentage. He also drew two walks for a .563 on-base average. In addition to a team-leading seven base hits, Luna also contributed a sacrifice bunt and was error-free in eight total defensive chances in the field. He was previously named the C-USA Hitter of the Week on Feb. 26.
Luna joined the TCL’s Euless LoneStars midway through the season after finishing a postseason stretch with the Owls. The Southlake, TX native led the LoneStars to a 26-22 record and hit .299 for the season, with 9 doubles, 14 RBI’s and 2 home runs.
