The 2006 Texas Collegiate League Freshman of the Year, Aaron Luna of the Rice Owls, has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the period ending February 25. It is the second time in his Rice career that Luna has been named the C-USA Hitter of the Week. He also earned the honor as a freshman for the week of Feb. 12.
After leading the Owls to a 4-0 week and extending the team's winning streak to six games, Luna batted a team-best .467 (7-for-15) with four RBI and six runs scored. Not only did he hit safely in each game, he hit a double in all four games. Luna added a home run to go with the four doubles for a .933 slugging percentage. He drew two walks to maintain a
.529 on-base percentage. Defensively, he was perfect in the field on 14 chances and turned three of the team's five double plays.
Luna joined the TCL’s Euless LoneStars midway through the season after finishing a postseason stretch with the Owls. The Southlake, TX native led the LoneStars to a 26-22 record and hit .299 for the season, with 9 doubles, 14 RBI’s and 2 home runs.
