Bombers and Marshals Edge Out Victories

Marshals 9 Copperheads 8 (13 innings)
The third of a four game series between the Coppell Copperheads and the McKinney Marshals was an extra innings affair.  In today’s game, Coppell had a big first inning as they scored 4 runs with the help of 3 walks 3 errors and no hits.  Coppell added another run in the third as Robert Barbosa tripled to right then was brought in by a balk for a 5-1 Coppell lead.  The Marshals came roaring back as Stephen Gillete singled with the bases loaded, scoring 2 runs and a wild pitch brought in Brian Taylor, followed by an infield RBI single by Joe Oliveria to tie the game at 5-5.  In the top of the ninth inning, a 2 RBI single by Brock Holt gave the Copperheads a 7-5 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth, Justin Bloxom blasted a bomb to right with Oliveria on base to tie the game at 7-7.  Coppell then got an unearned run in the tenth to take an 8-7 lead.  In the bottom of the inning Myrio Richard doubled in Michael Reed to tie the score 8-8.  In dramatic fashion, leadoff hitter Myrio Richard homered to left field for a walk off win and as the Marshals came within one game of a sweep of the Copperheads. The win goes to Nick Thomas (1-1) and the loss goes to Josh Thomason (1-1).

Bombers 4 Pumpjacks 1
The Bombers headed into tonight’s game hoping to cut down on walks, errors and leaving runners on base. The team accomplished all three tonight, as they defeated the East Texas Pumpjacks 4-1 in a complete team effort. The Bombers were flawless in the field, making no errors; the team committed only five walks, and left only seven runners on base.
The Bombers fell behind early 1-0, but rallied in the 3rd inning to capture a 2-1 lead behind Trey Sperring’s two-run single. The pitching staff was very effective, keeping the Pumpjacks from threatening and the Bombers scored two more runs in the 7th inning to put the game out of reach. Dustin Rasco came in to pitch a perfect 9th inning and collect his fourth save of the summer.
Zach Grichor was named the player of the game after collecting two hits and driving in a run. Todd Cunningham was also 1-for-3 with a run and RBI for the Bombers, who will host the Pumpjacks again tomorrow on Fireworks Friday. Don’t miss out on the best firework show in Brazos Valley as the Bombers look for their second straight win.
