The Texas Tomcats continued their winning ways on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over the North Texas Copperheads on the road to extend their winning streak to five games. The Tomcats received a solid pitching performance from starter Casey Grayson who picked up the win throwing eight innings of one-run ball, only giving up four hits while striking out four. The Tomcats found themselves down 1-0 early in the game, but tied it up on an RBI single by designated hitter Nick DeSantiago in the top of the sixth. The score remained 1-1 until the top of the ninth inning when the Tomcats scratched out a run to take the lead. Brock Hebert reached on an error and then stole second and third to get into scoring position. Chris Vergne then laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Hebert. Tomcat's closer Stephen Tromblee relieved Grayson in the bottom of the ninth and struck out the side to pick up his sixth save of the season. The Tomcats improved their record to 9-8 while the Copperheads fell to 6-11. The Tomcats will continue on their road trip to meet the Brazos Valley Bombers tomorrow night in Bryan. Game time is 7:05pm.
