Generals Beat Bombers 6-5 in Extra Innings

In the biggest game of the season to date, it was no suprise that the Victoria Generals and Brazos Valley Bombers needed extra innings to determine who would get the outright lead in the Texas Collegiate League standings.  With the Generals holding onto a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the 9th inning, the Bombers were able to scratch out a run on a wild pitch to even the score at 5-5 and force extra innings.  With two outs in the top of the 11th, General's outfielder Mark Hudson receached base on a walk to put the winning run on base.  Conner Mach then stepped to the plate and drilled his third double of the game into the outfield gap to plate Hudson.  Roman Madrid then came on in relief for the Generals and got the final three outs to secure a 6-5 victory for the Generals.  The win puts the Generals in sole possession of first place with two games remaining in the first half of the season.  The team with the highest record at the All-Star break will be crowned the first half champion and secure a playoff spot.  The Generals improved to 14-7 on the season as the Bombers fell to 14-9.  The Generals will take on the Texas Tomcats at home on Friday and the North Texas Copperheads at home on Saturday as they round out the first half of the season.  Game times are 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.

The Generals will also be the host team for the 2010 TCL All-Star Game which will take place at Riverside Stadium in Victoria on Monday, July 5.  Gates will open at 5:30.  Happy Hour will be from 5:30 - 7:00 with $1 draft beer, $3 margaritias, and $1 hot dogs.  The home run derby will start at 6:00 and game time is 7:05pm.  Tickets for the event are on sale now at the Victoria General's front office located at 3708 N. Navarro in the Landmark Shopping Center.  Stop by or call at 361-485-9522.
