Guaranteed Win? You Bet!

Bryan-College Station, TX (July 19, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers fulfilled their promise to Bombers’ fans Monday night, defeating the second place Victoria Generals in a close game. The win comes on the night that Anco Insurance guaranteed a Bombers victory or free tickets to all in attendance.

The Bombers got on the board in the second when Morgan Mickan drove home Casey Dykes on a two out RBI single. One batter later, John Cannon brought Mickan home with a double down the first base line to give the Bombers an early 2-0 lead. In the fifth the Bombers scored one more time when Cannon reached home plate on a Wes Patterson RBI double.

On the defensive side, Brian Borski struck out seven Generals’ batters while only allowing two base hits in six and two thirds innings of work. Borski’s one run allowed came in the sixth on a sacrifice fly. In the eighth the Generals loaded the bases on two walks and a single before Kenny Jackson drew a bases loaded walk to pull the visitors within one run at 3-2.

The Bombers Alec Mills worked out of the jam in the eighth and recorded the first two outs in the ninth before closer Matt Passauer came on to finish the game. The General’s Abel Baker belted a ball deep into left field down the baseline, but Greg Olson caught up to it just in time to secure the win for the Bombers.

With the win the Bombers tie their mark for most wins in a season at 23 and open up a two game lead in the Texas Collegiate League standings. After tomorrow’s game in Weimar against the TomCats the Bombers will have a day off before they start a two game series with the McKinney Marshals on Thirsty Thursday and Fireworks Friday.
