Pump Jacks Top Victoria, Extend First Place LeadHunter Dozier came a home run short of the cycle to lead the Jacks over the Generals 7-3 as the first half of the season winds down. The Pump Jacks took the thunder to Victoria Friday night following heavy rain that washed out their Thursday night matchup. Eight of the nine starters in the East Texas lineup got hits as the Jacks topped Victoria, 7-3 to extend their record to 16-10. With the win, the Pump Jacks find themselves at the top of the Texas Collegiate League standings, a game and a half over the second place Brazos Valley Bombers. The first half of the 2011 season wraps up Tuesday, with the top two teams clinching a playoff spot. Hunter Dozier led the Jacks offense, falling a home run short of the cycle. Dozier went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI on a single, double and triple. He also stole a base. Beau Maggi reached base four of the five times he stepped into the batters box going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, with a walk and hit by pitch. Ty Marlow added a stand-up RBI triple while Kirby Pellant and Michael Sullivan each posted RBI hits as well. Jaden Dillon walked away with his fourth straight win going five and a third innings on the hill. The two-time TCL Pitcher of the Week allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out three. Jaron Long came on in relief in the sixth inning and posted two and two-thirds of strong relief, allowing a lone hit with two strikeouts. Hallsville native Jason Jester took the hill to close of the contest in the ninth. The Jacks posted a four-spot in the fourth inning to erase an early 1-0 Victoria lead. Jake Pinchback and Maggi each singled before Dozier cleared the bases with a triple, picking up his first two of a season-high four RBI. Dozier scored on an error on the General shortstop. Sullivan rounded out the inning scoring on a sacrifice fly from Marlow. The Generals answered a single run in the fifth and the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3 but the Jacks put three more runs on the board in the seventh to put the contest away. Seth Granger led off the seventh with a hard hit single up the middle, followed by Maggi getting hit by a pitch to set the table for a Dozier double that scored both. Dozier showed off his wheels, scoring the Jacks final run on a single from Sullivan. The Jacks square off with the Generals again tonight for the final time in the 2011 season.
