Generals Sign Two Players from Tulane University

February  1, 2016 – With the 2016 Texas Collegiate League season  less than four months away,  the Victoria Generals  continue to add to their roster with the addition of Garrett Gray and Jonathan Artigues from Tulane University. This marks the third consecutive season that the Generals have had players from Tulane on their roster.

"We are extremely excited to have a great working relationship with the coaching staff at Tulane University ,"stated Mike Yokum, the General Manager for the Victoria Generals. " Tulane has one of the best baseball programs in the country  and continue to have players drafted year after year and it is great to have them be a part of our program. "

Garrett Gray, a freshman catcher from Sugar Land, Texas, will see time behind the plate as Tulane hits the field later this month. Gray was a standout four-year letterman from George Ranch High School in Richmond, Texas where he helped lead his team to the District 24-5A league title as a senior.  In Gray's senior season he hit .329 while throwing out an impressive 60% of potential base stealers from behind the plate. Gray earned 5A All-Houston Second Team honors as a senior while picking up First Team Catcher All-District and All-District MVP honors.

Jonathan Artigues, a freshman utility player from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, will see time both in the infield as well as time on the mound this season. Artigues, a three-year letterman at St. Stanislaus High School,  helped lead his team to a 29-5 record  and winning the Mississippi State Championship as a senior. Artigues hit .392 with five doubles, four triples, one home run with 26 RBI's while going 12-1 on the mound with a 1.12 ERA as a senior. Artigues also was named First-Team All-State and All-District Honors as a senior.

"It's great to stay connected with Coach Pierce at Tulane as he is a great teacher of the game of baseball,  "stated Michael Oros, Generals Head Coach. "Coach Pierce was my Head Coach at Sam Houston  and really taught me not only about the game of baseball but how to be a better man."

The Generals will begin their season at home on May 27 at Riverside Stadium as they take on the Texas Marshals. The 2016 season will have a new look at Riverside Stadium with an enhanced turf infield that was recently completed last month.  The  2016 schedule is now available on our website  at  www.victoriagenerals.com    Stop by the Generals Team Shop and get your team merchandise located at 1307 E.
