"Road to Four" Begins With the Signing of Three Players to 2016 Roster
The Brazos Valley Bombers Welcomes Three Players from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Bryan-College Station, TX (February 10, 2016) - With the Texas Collegiate League (TCL) season right around the corner, the Brazos Valley Bombers are assembling another championship roster, and are excited to announce the first three players to sign for our “Road to Four” 2016 season. Coming to the Brazos Valley for the first time from University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) will be juniors Brayden Bouchey and Anthony Herrera, both summer All-Americans by Perfect Game, and Sophomore Spencer Hemphill. Bouchey, Herrera, and Hemphill are expected to help form a firm foundation in the upcoming season. “[We are] very excited to get these three players from ULM. They all come with experience and were some of the best players in the country last summer,” said Curt Dixon, Bombers Head Coach. “These guys are talented players with high character and we are looking forward to having them in the Brazos Valley this summer.” Junior Brayden Bouchey, a right-handed pitcher from Vancouver, British Columbia, comes to us standing at 6’6 with 8 starts for the ULM Warhawks last season. Bouchey spent his last summer with the Licking County Settlers in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League where he had a .22 ERA in 41 innings. Junior IF and right-handed pitcher Anthony Herrera from McKinney, Texas is set to bring his talents to the Bombers this season. Herrera was named Second-team All-Sun belt in the Sun Belt conference in 2015. This past season Herrera had 34 starts in the infield and tallied 35 total hits with 13 runs scored and four RBI. Last Summer Herrera played in the Perfect Game Collegiate League and hit .292 at second base, and on the mound he had a 0.00 era in 26 innings with 30 strikeouts. West Monroe, Louisiana native Spencer Hemphill is currently a sophomore catcher for the Warhawks. In Hemphill’s first season with ULM, Hemphill appeared in 41 games, splitting time between catcher and designated hitter. For the season, Hemphill had 34 hits including seven doubles, two homers, 14 RBI’s and scored 11 runs. Additionally, Hemphill is ranked 2nd on the team with seven sacrifice bunts. The 3-peat TCL champions will begin their 10th season in the TCL on Friday, May 27th. Affordable family fun returns to Cellucor Field as the Bombers decade season begins May 27th.
